Remote Sales Tax and Sale Facilitators |
|
I have been a Seller and Buyer on Ebay for the past 20+
years. I am NOT affiliated with Ebay in any other capacity.
Recently Federal law required Ebay, as a "Sales Facilitator", to collect and distribute sales tax on all transactions on Ebay for those 46+ states that have opted into the Remote Sales Tax program. Small Businesses that sell LESS than $100,000 and less than 200 sales (in some states the threshold is $200,000/400 sales) directly to ANY ONE state are NOT required to collect and distribute this Remote Sales Tax for any of those states (except to the Business's home state). However, Remote Sales Facilitators like eBay, Amazon and the like, ALL have sales to these 46 states that exceed these state minimums no matter what level of sales that the individual businesses are making. Which means that, although I DO NOT make 200 sales in ANY state within a year, eBay still gets to collect and distribute this Remote Sale Tax from you, no matter what state you are ordering from. You have a choice, though. You may purchase through Ebay and be subject to the Remote Sales Tax, or you may purchase directly from out of state online small businesses (that don't exceed the state sales minimums) and you will not be subject to this Remote Sales Tax. Email us for more information on how this affects your purchases. |
